School’s out for the summer — which means your kids are about to have the time of their lives. But safety is still important and doesn’t have to ruin their good time. Here are some of the most important summer safety tips for your family this season.
Be safe at the playground
Remind your children not to talk to strangers at the park. If you have younger children, always keep them in sight on the playground. And remember, playground equipment can be really hot when it sits in the sun.
Don’t let bugs bug you
Always wear bug spray when outside to avoid disease-carrying pests like ticks and mosquitoes. Remember to check for ticks on your kids, your pets, and yourself at the end of each outdoor adventure.
Stay out of the heat
It’s always great to encourage children to play outside, but make sure they stay hydrated and wear sunscreen. When temperatures are extreme, find fun indoor activities that don’t just involve screens, and encourage playtime breaks for rest on average temperature days.
Be careful with fireworks
Fireworks are a summertime staple, but they can be dangerous. Never let children set off fireworks, and monitor them closely when they play with sparklers. When visiting larger fireworks displays, watch from a safe distance and always bring a first-aid kit.
