Autumn brings with it cooler temperatures and changing road conditions. At each change of the season, it is crucial to perform a bit of vehicle maintenance to ensure your car, truck, van, or SUV is prepared to face these changing conditions. Check out this fall car care checklist before your next driving trip.
- Ensure visibility. Do a walk-around of your vehicle to make sure all exterior lights are working — headlights, taillights, brake lights, and turn signals. Replace any bulbs as necessary, especially as we head into the darker months. Also, if your windshield wipers leave streaks, replace them before the rain and eventual snow that we get here in Michigan.
- Test your heater. Fall comes with a chill, but nothing you can’t handle. That’s why it’s important to test your heater (and defroster) now. If there are issues, you have time to fix it before the cold winter months.
- Check your tires and brakes. At home, you can test your tire pressure, which tends to drop in cooler months. You can also perform the penny test to ensure your tire tread is safe enough to get you through to spring. If you’re not sure, bring your vehicle in to Shuman Chrysler Dodge Jeep® We will also do a thorough brake inspection to ensure they are safe for wetter roads.
