Living in Walled Lake gives you access to so many exciting outdoor adventures. This autumn, consider camping along Wolverine Lake, at the Proud Lake State Recreation Area, or at Lakeshore Park. A slightly farther drive could take you south to Lake Erie or north to Lake Huron or even the chilly Upper Peninsula. Wherever you go, make sure you do proper fall camping trip prep. Here are things to pack:
- Warm clothes and blankets: It gets chilly at night and even during the day. Bring clothes with long sleeves, multiple layers, and plenty of coats, hats, and gloves. Expect to get wet on your day adventures, so bring extras of everything, especially socks. You will also want several warm blankets.
- Fire starters: Before camping, make sure you know how to safely start a fire. Don’t forget to pack windproof, waterproof matches or a safe lighter.
- Trash bags: Leave the wilderness the way you found it. That means collect all garbage in trash bags and take it to the nearest trash receptacle. Remember to put the trash bags inside your car at night so you don’t attract wildlife.
- Hiking backpacks: If you are leaving camp for day adventures, bring a backpack that can hold your water (bring plenty of this), compass, map, coats, snacks, and other essentials.
