2014 Ward’s 10 Best Engines List Names Two Chrysler Group Engines

Every year for the past 20, WardsAuto editors have evaluated new or “significantly improved” engines and propulsion systems. Four years in a row, Chrysler Group has made the list. This year, two engines were named to the prestigious 2014 Ward’s 10 Best Engines list; and they both bring exclusive capabilities in comparison to other vehicles in their respective segments.

The 3.0-liter EcoDiesel V6 engine of the 2014 Ram 1500 blew judges away, garnering 24 mpg and greater during WardsAuto’s testing. It is the only clean diesel engine available in the full-size light-duty truck segment.

The Fiat e500’s 83-kW electric motor and 24-kWh battery pack provided a winning combination of fun-to-drive handling and best-in-class electric driving range. The Fiat consistently performed above 85 electric miles on one charge for WardsAuto editors. It was the only electric vehicle to make the list.

“We are very gratified with this year’s Chrysler Group selections because they demonstrate the depth of our engineering talent and shine a spotlight on the wide range of Chrysler Group products,” said Bob Lee, Chrysler Group’s vice president and head of Engine and Electrified Propulsion Engineering.
